The first Tory MP to present a letter of no confidence to Boris Johnson after a fine for the “party”.

Lord Frost, the former Brexit minister, said he was “confident” Boris Johnson would lead the Conservative Party in the next general election.

He told LBC Radio: “I believe he will do it if he does the right thing, as I said earlier, if he presents his thesis, clarifies what is happening, legitimizes the position with parliament.

“We have an energy crisis, a lot of things are happening, it will be extremely difficult, I think people are aware of that.

“I think when it comes to choosing between Conservatives and Labor, the results of this government, the leadership skills of Boris Johnson, the fact that we will achieve so much will be important.

“So yes, I’m sure he will, but we have to do the right thing in the two years we have left.”
