Canadian-arrested arrest of Elnaz Haytamiri, 2nd Canadian warrant issued

A Mississauga man has been arrested in connection with the alleged attack on Elnaz Haytamiri, 37, a woman abducted from Wasaga Beach three months ago and police have issued an order for a second man across Canada.

York’s regional police say Riyasat Singh, 23, was arrested on Wednesday and charged with attempted murder, kidnapping, possession of property worth more than $ 5,000 and mischief of less than $ 5,000.

Police are now looking for another 23-year-old, Harshdip Biner of Brampton.

Haytamiri, also known as Tamiri, was abducted on the evening of January 12 when three men dressed in what appeared to be police equipment stormed a Trailwood Place home.

Police said earlier this week that they linked the abduction to another incident in which Haytamiri was attacked with a frying pan in Richmond Hill last December, saying they believed the same people had either been involved in the abduction or could identify those responsible.

Haytamiri remains unaccounted for, and York’s regional police are working with Ontario police to locate her.

Thursday’s arrests are in connection with the alleged attack in December. Police did not name other suspects in connection with the abduction.

On December 21, police said they had been called in to attack King William Crescent’s underground garage in Richmond Hill. It is said that Haytamiri was hit by a frying pan.

A witness interrupted the incident and the suspects fled in a car, police said.

Haytamiri was then taken to hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Police later found the suspect vehicle, which they said was stolen, in Toronto.

Anyone with information about Biner’s whereabouts or investigation is asked to contact the York Regional Police.

Speaking from Iran in a video statement to Ontario police this week, Haitamiri’s mother said she did not know if her daughter was alive or not.

“As a mother, I ask you to guide us and tell us everything you know,” she said. “Please, please help us. We live a desperate life.

“Please help us find Elnaz.”
