AA advised motorists to avoid traveling on Good Friday if possible, saying drivers would be better off leaving today or early Saturday morning.
Edmund King, President of AA, said: “All our research shows that Good Friday will be the busiest day for Easter travel and stay. If some drivers can leave on Thursday or early Saturday, they may miss some of the traffic jams.
The automotive organization also estimates that at higher fuel prices, a 500-mile return trip will see drivers pay £ 20 more at the pumps than last Easter.
About 27.6 million car trips are expected to take place over the weekend, the automotive organization estimates.
