Emergency services responded to a deadly collision between a vehicle and a school bus near the village of Alma, north of Elmira, on Wednesday afternoon.
The Wellington County OPP said they were called in a Sideroad 21 and 14th Line crash around 3:30 p.m., along with the Center-Wellington Fire Rescue and Guelph-Wellington Paramedical Service.
Const. Joshua Cunningham said the only passenger in the vehicle, the driver, had been pronounced dead at the scene.
The OPP reported that about a dozen school-age children and a driver were on the bus at the time of the crash, but no one on the bus was seriously injured.
“After the collision, the school bus company arranged for most students to go home,” Cunningham said, adding that some parents had also come to the scene.
Police said they have not yet determined which school the students attend.
Cunningham said they are still working to identify the deceased driver and notify the family.
Late Wednesday afternoon, investigators remained on the scene and planned to keep the road closed as they continue to gather evidence.
