Sligo: A 20 – year – old man accused of killing two men in an Irish city World news

Police investigating the murders of two men in Ireland have charged a man in his 20s.

Aiden Moffitt, 42, and Michael Snee, 58, were found dead in their own homes in Sligo on the West Coast earlier this week.

The accused is due to appear in the Sligo District Court this afternoon.

The man, whose name has not yet been named, was arrested on suspicion of murder following the discovery of Mr Snee’s body in his Connaughton Road apartment at around 10.30pm on Tuesday.

He was subjected to “serious physical assault and suffered significant injuries,” Garda superintendent Aidan Glaken told a news conference in Sligo.

The suspect was detained in the town of Sligo around 1.45 am on Wednesday.

Mr Moffitt’s body was found at his house in Cartron Heights at around 8.30pm on Monday. He also received “significant physical injuries”, Gardai said.

Mr Moffitt has worked in the real estate sector and has been a peace commissioner for his local area, as well as a Fine Gael activist.

Gardai is also investigating a third recent incident in the Sligo area as part of a murder investigation.
