The CMOH expects the province’s epidemiology to improve in the coming weeks

With hundreds of thousands of cases, Newfoundland and Labrador are close to the top of their current COVID wave, according to the province’s chief medical officer for health.

Dr Janice Fitzgerald says that while the current peak of Omicron cases may last a little longer than previous versions, public health officials expect the epidemiology to improve over the next few weeks.

So far, Fitzgerald says there are between 37,000 and 40,000 officially confirmed cases of the virus.

But she says the actual number of people with COVID is probably four to six times higher, meaning the total number of people infected could be about 200,000.

Yesterday, Dr. Janice Fitzgerald unveiled the province’s plan to launch a second booster vaccine against COVID-19.
