A driver on the road in New Jersey chased and ran over a woman twice with his car after the victim took pictures of the suspect who was trying to escape from the scene of a previous accident, authorities said.

Vincent Jean, 56, was arrested this week and charged with a number of charges, including attempted first-degree murder, for Tuesday morning’s attack, the Union County Attorney’s Office said Wednesday.

Shocking footage received from News 12 New Jersey from Salem Avenue in Elizabeth, New Jersey, alleges that Jean turned a silver Mitsubishi the wrong way down a one-way street as the vehicle tried to chase the 23-year-old victim, officials said.

The footage, which is said to have come from a neighbor’s security camera, also shows the woman fleeing the vehicle while continuing after her. Authorities said he ran over the victim twice before fleeing.

Authorities say Elizabeth police received a call at around 8:30 a.m. Tuesday for someone who had been hit by a vehicle. They arrived to find the victim “lying on the front lawn of the Salem Avenue residence, suffering from multiple serious injuries,” prosecutors said.

Witnesses told police Jean and the victim were involved in a minor car accident in the area.

“After the accident, the male driver tried to flee the scene, and the victim, who was standing on the sidewalk, began filming the suspect’s car so that he could identify him to the police,” prosecutors said.

It is alleged that Jean then launched his attack.

“The suspect climbed onto the lawn and hit the victim,” officials continued, “then transferred her before reversing and deliberately running over her a second time.”

The victim was rushed to a local hospital in serious condition. Meanwhile, Jean is said to have fled the scene, but was spotted hours later sitting in the same, already damaged vehicle.

The Union County Attorney’s Office has charged Jean with: attempted first-degree murder; second-degree assault; third degree severe attack with a deadly weapon; third degree assault with a car; leaving the third degree of the scene of the accident with severe bodily injury; endangering a third-degree victim and possession of a third-degree weapon for an illegal purpose.
