Al-Aqsa Mosque: At least 90 injured in Israeli police clash with Palestinians | World news

Dozens were injured in clashes between Israeli police and Palestinians at the Al-Aqsa Mosque complex in Jerusalem, the third holiest site in Islam.

The video shows officers using tear gas and stunning grenades to disperse the crowd, some wearing masks who police say threw stones and fireworks at them.

At least 90 Palestinians have been injured, according to the Palestinian Red Crescent Emergency Service.

Thousands of worshipers gathered at the mosque two weeks after Ramadan, with tensions already high after a series of terrorist attacks.

Israeli police entered the area shortly after early morning prayers, said the Islamic Fund, which administers the site.

It says one of the guards was shot in the eye with a rubber bullet.

The Israeli Foreign Ministry said dozens of masked men carrying Palestinian and Hamas flags marched to the complex.

“Police were forced to enter the area to disperse the crowd and remove stones and rocks to prevent further violence,” Twitter said.

A statement from Israeli police said there were “hundreds of insurgent protesters who are constantly throwing stones and fireworks at police in the area”.

It is stated that three police officers were injured.

Hamas spokesman Fawzi Barhum described the violence as “brutal attacks by Israeli occupying forces on worshipers at the Al-Aqsa Mosque”.

The mosque is the third holiest site in Islam and was built on top of a hill, which is the holiest site for the Jews, who call it the Temple Mount.

This has been a major hotbed of Israeli-Palestinian violence for decades.

For the first time in 30 years, Easter, Ramadan and Easter fall on the same day on Friday, and millions are expected to celebrate inside Jerusalem within the city walls.

In late March and early April, Israel suffered one of the worst waves of attacks in years.

In four separate incidents, 14 Israelis were killed and dozens injured.

Sky News correspondent for the Middle East Alistair Bunkal said the attacks in recent days had been carried out by a mixture of Palestinians, Arab Arabs and Bedouins.

Israel has carried out a series of arrests and operations in the occupied West Bank, sparking clashes with Palestinians.

The Palestinian Ministry of Health said a 17-year-old died Friday from injuries sustained in the West Bank city of Jenin the day before.

At least 25 Palestinians have been killed in a recent wave of violence – many of whom have carried out attacks or riots – but also an unarmed woman and a lawyer who appear to have been killed by mistake.
