Altoona, WI (WEAU) [UPDATE 4:00 p.m. April 15] – The Altuna Police Department confirmed that an 80-year-old man from Altuna was found dead in Rockford, Illinois on Tuesday.
The Altuna Police Department held a press conference to update details of the investigation into the death on Friday afternoon.
Altuna Police Chief Kelly Bucken said several people interested in the case were in custody, some of whom were detained on unrelated charges. No charges have been filed in the ongoing investigation. Baken said the case involved multiple jurisdictions.
Evidence gathered so far points to an isolated incident, Bucken said. The investigation is “complex,” Baken said, noting the “huge” collaboration between Altoona Police, the Rockford Police Department and the Wisconsin Department of Justice’s Criminal Investigation Division.
The location and manner of the man’s death have not been announced pending the results of a written autopsy report, Bucken said. The man was identified by his fingerprints. Investigators do not know how long the man was in the Rock River before he was found Tuesday morning near Fordam Dam in Rockford.
No missing person has been reported to the man, Bucken said. Investigators have not yet revealed the motive or names of those involved or in custody pending further investigation.
Baken said Altuna was a “very safe community” and that it had been several years since the murder in the city, and said he hoped it would stay that way.
St. Andrews Drive, the investigation area of Altoona, is open again. Bakken said they began processing the scene at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday and hope to release the scene later on Friday. A van was pulled from the home and was taken as potential evidence in the investigation.
Altoona, WI (WEAU) [UPDATE 11:45 a.m. April 15] – The Rockford Police Department (Illinois) announced on Friday that the body found of a man from Altuna, a man, was found on Tuesday, April 12.
The body was reportedly found near Fordam Dam on the Rock River near downtown Rockford. Earlier, the department informed the public about the incident on April 12, saying that an investigation into the death of a body found near the dam was underway.

Altoona, WI (WEAU) [UPDATE 10:15 a.m. April 15] – Altuna police confirmed on Friday morning that a resident of the city is dead.
According to a statement from the Altoona Police Department, the department was approached by the Rockford Police Department, Illinois, about a body found in Rockford and identified as a resident of Altoona.
The statement said investigators from the Altoona Police Department, the Rockford Police Department and the Wisconsin Department of Criminal Investigation will remain on site at the St. Andrews Drive in Altoona to continue the investigation into the death. At the time the police arrived at the home, the homeowners were there, but did not say if anyone had been arrested.
Police added that if anyone in the area has noticed suspicious activity in the last week, contact the police. According to the announcement, the names of those involved will not be disclosed until proper notifications have been made.
The Altoona Police Department was assisted by the Wisconsin Crime Laboratory, the Wisconsin State Patrol and the Altoona Fire Department.
A press conference will be held on Friday.
Altoona, WI (WEAU) [UPDATE 9:10 a.m. April 15] – An investigation into the death is underway in Altuna, after an increased presence of law enforcement agencies responded at home on Thursday night.
Altuna Police Chief Kelly Buckan confirmed the investigation and said the death looked suspicious.
Baken said the incident appeared to be isolated and the public was not in danger. More information will be provided on Friday morning.
From 21:00 on Thursday evening, St. Andrews Drive in Altuna was blocked by law enforcement. Residents in the area said law enforcement seems to be centered around a house on Block 1300 on St. Andrews Drive.

At 9 p.m., St. Andrews Drive was blocked by officials. Neighbors in the area tell us that the activity seems to be centered around a house in block 1300 on St. Andrews Drive.
