Funeral Mass for a Western University student killed in a parking lot

A funeral service will be held Wednesday at Sault Ste. Marie for Western University student Maya Nenonen, who died in a collision in a parking lot on Western Road on Monday.

A Sault Ste. Marie’s 21-year-old Nenonen was killed when she was hit by a vehicle in the parking lot of the 974 Western Rd city complex. where she lived. She was a freshman at Ivy’s Western Business School.

Nenonen is survived by her parents Michael and Pina Nenonen and brother Mika, according to an obituary published Thursday.

The visit is to Sault Ste. Marie’s Northwood Cremation and Reception Center will be held Tuesday from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at St. Gregory Catholic Church.

“Although she was taken away from us too early, we know that her 21 years with us have been full of love, laughter and a lifetime full of memories that we will continue to cherish and share,” the obituary said.

In an interview with The London Free Press on Tuesday, her mother Pina Nenonen said that as a high school student, her daughter dreamed of going to a western. She was on her way to campus to study at the library when she was hit.

“I will miss her and she was very loved. And that’s a big loss, “said Pina Nenonen.

As of Thursday, London police have not made any allegations of the clash.
