An additional 30 people are in hospital with COVID-19 compared to a week ago, and another 23 have died after a positive test for the disease, according to BC’s new weekly pandemic reports.
As of Thursday, 364 people are in hospital with the new coronavirus, including 36 in intensive care. the COVID-19 control panel of the BC shows.
This is an increase of about nine percent in total hospitalizations since last Thursday, when 334 people were hospitalized. The number of patients in the intensive care unit decreased by five percent from 38 a week ago.
The figures, released on Thursday, mark a new approach for BC health workers, both in the transition to weekly reporting and in the way certain indicators are calculated.
Other data related to the pandemic are available, iethere is no report from the BC Centers for Disease Controlwhich tracks cases, hospital admissions and deaths between 3 and 9 April.
This shows that 1,770 new cases of COVID-19 have been reported during this time based solely on the results reported by the laboratory. Under the previous reporting system, new cases included those reported by health authorities.
The report shows that the number of new cases has increased by about four percent from 1,703 in the previous week.
The percentage of test positive increases again
Another 23 people died between April 3rd and 9th, a figure that is reported in very different ways.
These 23 deaths included all those who died within 30 days of a positive COVID-19 test, whether or not the virus was confirmed as the leading cause of death. Previously, every death was investigated to determine if COVID-19 was the cause.
An additional 233 people were admitted to hospital with COVID-19 during this time.
Meanwhile, test positivity levels are rising again, reaching 8.2% across the province on April 9th and up to 17.4% in the interior region, according to the scoreboard.
Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry said just over five percent pass rate is an indicator of a more alarming level of transmission.
Provincial statistics show that 91% of those aged 18 and over received two doses of vaccine. Those in the 5 to 11 age group who have had two vaccines are now 40 percent.
