M6 reopens after overturned truck causes nearly 12 hours of traffic slowdown – summary

An overturned truck closed the M6 ​​in Wigan for almost 12 hours. Drivers got stuck in severe delays after the car left the lane at around 5 am and overturned, injuring its driver.

The southbound road was completely closed to allow for recovery, with the crash between junction 24 for Ashton in Makerfield and junction 23 for Haydock. Northwest Highway Police were present and said there was “one lucky driver with minor injuries.”

Urgent repairs of the road surface and the protective barrier were necessary, which caused serious delays for drivers. Eventually, the highway reopened at around 4:40 p.m.
