An overturned truck closed the M6 in Wigan for almost 12 hours. Drivers got stuck in severe delays after the car left the lane at around 5 am and overturned, injuring its driver.
The southbound road was completely closed to allow for recovery, with the crash between junction 24 for Ashton in Makerfield and junction 23 for Haydock. Northwest Highway Police were present and said there was “one lucky driver with minor injuries.”
Urgent repairs of the road surface and the protective barrier were necessary, which caused serious delays for drivers. Eventually, the highway reopened at around 4:40 p.m.

A spokesman for the Inrix traffic monitoring website wrote: “The M6 Southbound has reopened, traffic has returned to normal, roadblocks and road repairs have been completed and a truck from J26 M58 (Orell Interchange) to J23 A580 East has previously been reversed. Lancashire Road (Haydock). The road was reopened at 4:40 p.m.
