Russian forces probably “just executed” nearly 1,000 Ukrainian citizens before withdrawing from the Kyiv region, Ukrainian authorities said on Friday. Police said about 900 bodies were found in makeshift mass graves or simply scattered in the streets, with about 95 per cent of them dying from gunshot wounds. “Therefore, we understand that under [Russian] occupation, people were just executed in the streets, “Andrei Nebitov, head of the regional police in Kyiv, told the Associated Press. Police said they continue to find more bodies every day, some under piles of rubble. The figure is almost twice as high as authorities thought two weeks ago, with the largest number – 350 – found in mass graves in Bucha.
