Phoenix police are looking for a man who allegedly shot a police officer in a store on Thursday.
Police responded to a call for domestic violence and met with a woman in a store because she was said to be uncomfortable meeting with police at her home, according to Fox 10.
Witness Gary McCanny told Fox 10 that after a while the situation became violent and he saw a police officer fall to the ground.
“They were there for a while, talking to a lady. When I turned my back [I hear] shots, maybe 10 of them, and I see an officer fall, “McAnney said.
The Phoenix Police Department identified Nicholas Cowan as a suspect Thursday night and said he weighed 215 pounds and was 6’0 inches tall, with tattoos on his neck, arms, chest and back. According to Cowen, he is 35 years old in the police. (Phoenix Police Department)
The injured police officer, identified as a 40-year-old woman, is currently in critical condition and is in the district hospital.
She was shot in the stomach at least once.

Police consider Cowan “armed and dangerous” and encourage people to call 911 if they see him.
Phoenix police also released photos of Cowan on Thursday, claiming he could be seen entering the store.
Police say they are convinced Kowan will be found.

“I will say this: I am convinced that we will find this man,” said Phoenix Police Chief Jerry Williams.
Police launched a Blue Signal for Cowan on Thursday night.

Cowen reportedly has a deep criminal history, according to Fox 10. The person has a criminal history dating back to the 2000s, and records show that he spent time in prison from 2006 to 2010 on a number of charges, including assault, aggravation of DUI, because as well as misuse of weapons.
He is also serving time in federal prison as he pleaded guilty to possession of heroin with intent to distribute. Cowan was released from prison until May 2020 and was placed under surveillance when he was arrested again for alleged drug production and distribution.

According to Williams, eight police officers have been shot dead in the past four months.
“We shot eight police officers and injured 13 during the four critical incidents we’ve had in the last four months,” Williams said. “Remember this: Public safety is not just our safety. It’s also community safety. “
