Prince Harry and Megan Markle make a secret visit to see the Queen before the Invictus Games

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex made a secret visit to the Queen before flying to The Hague to take part in the Invictus Games.

Prince Harry and Megan also reportedly met with Prince Charles during a visit to Windsor Castle on Thursday.

The two have not been together in the UK since retiring as senior working royalty in January 2020.

Their visit to the Queen follows the absence of Harry from the Duke of Edinburgh’s memorial service in London last month.

The duke is in the process of suing the Home Office after being told he would no longer have access to the same level of personal protection when visiting the United States, although he offered to pay the bill himself.

The prince hopes to bring his two children, Archie and Lilibet, to visit the United Kingdom, but his legal representative said he and his family “cannot return to his home” because it is too dangerous.

A spokesman for the duke confirmed earlier in March that he would miss the service for his grandfather, Prince Philip, but hopes to visit the queen soon.

This follows comments made by Dai Davis, a former head of royal defense at Scotland Yard, earlier this week that the idea of Prince Harry not being able to come to the UK due to security concerns is “pure unadulterated nonsense”, adding that the duke “is not a security expert.”

Speaking about possible security measures during the Invictus Games, Mr Davis said: “The truth is that I have no doubt that he will be protected, whether he takes his own team or the Dutch authorities give him some kind of VIP statute.

“The truth is that if there is a risk, both countries – ours and the Netherlands – have complex systems for determining risk.

“This country has decided that he is no longer at risk. That may not be true, but people who are far more qualified than I am now can make that decision and never take it lightly. “

The Ministry of Defense (MoD) is involved in caring for royalty in the Netherlands, he said, but added that while there is a Royal Defense Squad, it is not as large or as experienced as the UK squad.

Megan’s presence at the Invictus Games was confirmed by a spokesman for the couple on Monday.
