Russia sanctions Madison Kotorn, Marjorie Taylor Green despite comments against Ukraine, along with the rest of the House

The entire US House of Representatives is already on a “stop list” of sanctioned individuals banned from entering Russia, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

In a statement, the foreign ministry called the sanctions a “mirror” measure in response to the Biden administration’s sanctions on the entire Russian parliament on March 24th.

“These individuals, including the leadership and chairmen of the lower house committees of the US Congress, are included in Russia’s” stop list “on a permanent basis. Along with other current lawmakers for whom … entry into the Russian Federation was closed earlier, all US congressmen were “listed” on the basis of reciprocity, “the foreign ministry said.

Russia’s sanctions list has spared Republican Madison Kotorn of North Carolina or Marjorie Taylor Green of Georgia – both voted against a bill to impose additional sanctions on Russia and Belarus last month – although Mr Kotorn and Mrs Green were also among the few American lawmakers to speak negatively about Ukraine, although most of Congress has united in defending Kyiv in the face of an unprovoked invasion of Russia.

Last month, Mr Kotorn told supporters in his home state that Zelensky was a “thug” and said the Ukrainian government was “incredibly corrupt”, “incredibly evil” and a supporter of “awakened ideologies”.

In a podcast statement last month, Ms. Green blamed Russia for the unprovoked invasion of Kyiv, which she accused of “hitting the bear” and saying Moscow was “very successful in their invasion.”
