SIU is looking for witnesses after an injured passer-by in a police chase in Etobico

The Ontario Police Department is calling for witnesses after a man was seriously injured by a vehicle fleeing Etobico police on Tuesday night in an accident that led to a collision.

According to the Special Investigations Department, Toronto police reacted in the area of Auckland Road and Dundas Street West after receiving a signal for a pedestrian who caused traffic disruption.

While police found the man, SIU said, he got into a vehicle.

The vehicle has since been involved in a number of collisions as officers followed suit, SIU reported.

Police said earlier that they had reacted to at least three related scenes of clashes in Etobico and Mississauga tonight.

Photos from the various scenes show many damaged vehicles, one of which crashed into a watercraft next to a church.

“As a result of one of the clashes in the area of Queensway East and Dixie Road, a man waiting at the intersection in a vehicle suffered serious injuries,” SIU said in a statement. The 24-year-old man was taken to hospital for treatment.

Eventually, the suspect was detained by police. A surveillance video obtained earlier from CP24 shows employees moving to detain a driver after a smoking five-ton truck stopped near a construction site.

“SIU calls on anyone who may have information about this investigation, including video or photos, to contact the lead investigator,” the agency said in a statement.

Three investigators and a collision reconstruction specialist have been appointed in the case.

SIU is a provincial agency at arm’s length, called upon to investigate every time the police are involved in an incident leading to death, serious injuries or allegations of sexual violence.
