Aspenwood Elementary playground sealed by Port Moody police today (April 14th) after children’s eyes were exposed to an unknown substance

Port Moody’s Police (PMPD) is investigating what appears to be a hot sauce found smudged at a local school.

The unknown substance was found on high-contact surfaces at an Aspenwood playground and caused minor eye injuries to seven children today (April 14th).

PMPD staff were called to the facility in School District 43 (SD43) around 12:30 pm – located at Panorama Dr. 2001 – where it was found that the alleged hot sauce was deliberately spread.

At the time, the children were reacting as the substance was exposed to their eyes, said spokesman Const. Zaharias himself explained, noting that the police “are actively investigating the matter to determine who is responsible.”

A total of seven children were treated for injuries at school.

Zacharias says some were sent home earlier, while others stayed in Aspenwood until the end of the day

The Port Moody Fire and Rescue Service and Ambulance also responded to the incident today.
