Russia’s state television presenter says war in Ukraine “has already escalated in World War III”
The bodies of more than 900 Ukrainian civilians were found in the Kyiv region after the withdrawal of Russian forces, according to the chief of local police.
Andriy Nebitov, head of the regional police in Kyiv, said the bodies had been abandoned on the streets or temporarily buried. He said 95 per cent had died from gunshot wounds.
“Therefore, we understand that people were simply executed on the streets,” Mr Nebitov told reporters, adding that more bodies were found every day.
Meanwhile, an adviser to Ukraine’s interior ministry says the captain of Russia’s flagship warship Moscow has died in an alleged rocket blast that sank him this week. “Captain of the first rank … Anton Kuprin died during the explosion and fire on board,” Anton Gerashchenko wrote in the Telegram.
Ukraine says its army successfully struck the flagship on Wednesday, but the Russian Defense Ministry insists the fire on board and “stormy sea conditions” are to blame for its sinking.

Ukraine’s largest steelmaker promises never to work under Russian occupation
Ukraine’s largest steelmaker, Metinvest, vowed never to work under Russian occupation on Friday, saying more than a third of the country’s metallurgical production capacity is already out of order due to the siege of Mariupol.
The company, controlled by Ukraine’s richest man Rinat Akhmetov, also said Ukraine had more than halved iron ore production since the invasion. The country is one of Europe’s largest suppliers of iron ore.
Figures in a statement to Reuters reveal the industrial impact of the war as Russia prepares for a new offensive in the east, where Ukraine’s steel and coal assets are concentrated.
Metinvest has two huge steel mills in Mariupol – Ilyich and Azovstal – which it has placed in a special “hot canning” regime to protect equipment and prevent accidents when the war broke out.
Metinvest said in a statement that the sites had been damaged, but it was impossible to take stock and assess the scale due to the fighting.
It reads: “We believe in Ukraine’s victory and plan to resume production after the end of hostilities. Metinvest’s metallurgical enterprises will never operate under Russian occupation.
Metinvest’s plants in Mariupol account for more than a third of Ukraine’s total metallurgical production, the statement said.
“Therefore, the country has lost 30-40% of its metallurgical production capacity because the plants are not working. We have no doubt that their work will be resumed, but for that Mariupol must remain Ukrainian, “the statement said.

Dozens in Sevastopol are mourning the sinking of the Russian missile cruiser Moscow.
Dozens of people gathered in the Crimean city of Sevastopol on Friday to mourn the sinking of Russia’s Black Sea Fleet’s flagship, a symbol the crowd heard of hope, revival and strength until his death.
Some hugged, while others laid flowers in memory of the rocket cruiser “Moscow” at the monument to the founding of the Russian Navy in 1696 in the center of Sevastopol, the headquarters of the Black Sea Fleet.
Moscow said the ship sank while being towed into a stormy sea after a fire caused by an explosion of ammunition. Ukraine says one of its missiles caused it to sink.
“Even for those who were not on it,” Moscow was a symbol for all, a symbol of our power, of our hope, of the revival of the navy in the 1990s, “after the collapse of the Soviet Union,” he said. from the reserve Sergei Gorbachev, who spoke in front of the crowd in his naval uniform.
“There will be victories, there will be tragedies, but the memory remains,” Gorbachev said.
The crowd, which included a number of people serving on the ship, stood in respectful silence. Some wore the ribbon of St. George, a symbol of the Russian military.
“The loss of every ship, especially the flagship, is a tragedy for all those tens of thousands of people who have served there for more than 20 years,” said priest Georgy Ployakov.

Russia warns US not to arm Ukraine: “There will be consequences”
Russia has warned the United States that there will be “unpredictable consequences” if Washington continues to arm Ukraine, The Washington Post reported on Friday.
In Moscow, a foreign ministry spokeswoman confirmed that Russia had sent diplomatic notes to the United States and other countries for arms supplies to Ukraine, but did not say what the reports contained, according to Interfax.
“We call on the United States and its allies to stop the irresponsible militarization of Ukraine, which has unpredictable consequences for regional and international security,” the White House said in a statement.
This happened when US President Joe Biden approved a dramatic expansion of the range of weapons provided to Ukraine, including a 155-mm package of 155 mm howitzers (£ 612.3 million) – a major modernization of long-range artillery to corresponds to the Russian systems – coastal defense drones and armored vehicles, as well as additional portable anti-aircraft and anti-tank weapons and millions of rounds of ammunition.
The United States has also facilitated the supply of long-range air defense systems to Ukraine, including the shipment to Slovakia of Russian-made Soviet-era S-300 launchers, on which Ukrainian forces have already been trained.

Putin attacks Ukraine’s anti-ship missile factory after the sinking of Moscow
A day after Russia lost its flagship missile cruiser, Moscow, its defense ministry threatened Ukraine with intensified attacks and said it had hit a factory to produce anti-ship missiles on the outskirts of Kyiv.
“High-precision long-range missiles at the Caliber naval base attacked a military facility on the outskirts of Kyiv,” said Defense Ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov.
Witnesses report some of the most powerful explosions in the capital since Russian forces withdrew from the area two weeks ago, Namita Singh and Alistair Jamieson reported.
