A statement from the park said a “major breakthrough in the hull” occurred Wednesday at the USS The Sullivans. Paul Marzelo, president and CEO of the Navy Park, told the CNN branch of WKBW that the cause of the breach was under investigation and crews in both water and deck were trying to identify where the holes might be.
According to Marzelo, the ship will not sink completely, as the lake is only about five feet deep.
The breach is on the starboard side of the ship, according to Marzelo.
