Most hospital visits in western Quebec have been suspended due to the latest wave of COVID-19, according to local health authorities.
Hospitals in Gatineau, Hull, Papineau, Maniwaki, Shawville and Wakefield are affected by the decision, according to the Outaouais Integrated Center for Health and Social Services (CISSSO).
At a press conference on Friday morning, health officials said visits would also be limited to the Hôpital en santé mentale Pierre-Janet, a psychiatric hospital in Gatineau.
Caregivers can still visit relatives as long as they follow certain health measures, CISSSO said.
The new measure aims to protect both the most vulnerable in the region and health workers, the local health authority said in a press release.
