Firefighters rescued a cat from a burning home in western Ottawa.
Ottawa Fire received numerous calls to 911 reporting flames visible from the third floor of a home in Gladecrest Court shortly before 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
“911 callers said everyone had managed to get out of the house, but a cat was still inside,” fire officials said in a statement.
Firefighters were able to see heavy black smoke and flames as they responded to the fire.
Ottawa firefighters say firefighters were able to quickly demolish the main part of the fire, which is located in the bedroom on the third floor.
Firefighters were able to find the cat in the home and take it to safety.
Paramedics in Ottawa say an elderly woman was treated for light inhalation of smoke.
The cause of the fire is being clarified.

One man was treated by paramedics after a fire in Metcalfe.
Ottawa Fire says a resident of the Derby Street home called 911 shortly after 4 p.m., announcing that their home was on fire.
When firefighters arrived on the scene, they found a working fire in the bedroom upstairs.
The cause of the fire is being clarified.
