The Los Angeles Clippers lost their first game of play earlier this week. Now they have suffered another one before Friday’s “do or die” race and it is big. Paul George will be inactive against the New Orleans Pelicans after it was reported that he tested positive for COVID-19 and entered the league’s health and safety protocols. It’s a serious blow for Los Angeles, but it’s a team that has been tested in battles for much of the season, with the stars sidelined with injury. After one half of the game, the Pelicans remain ahead with a double-digit lead over the Clippers.
The Clippers, who lost to the Minnesota Timberwolves in Tuesday’s 7/8 game, are 24-27 without George, compared to 18-14 when he is active. They will have to rely on their other players to win their fourth consecutive playoff playoffs and their 10th in the last 11 seasons. The Pelicans, meanwhile, have beaten the San Antonio Spurs in their 9/10 game and are now one victory away from the top-ranked Phoenix Suns in the first round of the playoffs.
