The US Coast Guard is looking for a man who reportedly jumped overboard the cruise ship Carnival Mardi Gras in the waters of the Atlantic Ocean early Saturday morning.
Carnival Cruise Line told FOX Business that the accident happened during the return of the ship to Port Canaveral.

“The ship’s crew is involved in search and rescue efforts until the ship is released from the US Coast Guard, which continues its search. The Carnival Care team supports the guest’s family. “Mardi Gras has arrived in Port Canaveral and will sail on its next route,” a spokesman said in a statement.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the guest and his family,” the cruise line said.

Carnival told Fox 35 that the ship’s crew immediately began a search and rescue to find the man, but was unable to locate him.
The station said the coast guard had since taken over the search and that the ship was continuing its journey to the port of Canaveral.

Public Relations Specialist David Mikalef of the US Coast Guard Jacksonville confirmed to Fox Business on Saturday that the man was a 43-year-old passenger.
He jumped about 55 miles east of Port Canaveral, Florida.
Musician Elio Pace reacted to the diversion of his cruise ship, leaving crew members after the ship was issued an arrest warrant.
Mikalef noted that the Coast Guard immediately sent air and water means, including 144 fixed-wing aircraft.

The cruise ship Elation also assisted in the search, and medium-sized Coast Guard cutters Ibis and Heron were also on the scene.
This comes about a week after the Carnival Magic helped the Coast Guard rescue a stranded sailor about 69 miles off the coast of Port Canaveral.
