Confirm that the meteorite that hit Earth in 2014 is outside our solar system

The U.S. military confirmed years after the strike that a meteorite that struck Earth in 2014 was of interstellar origin.

It is believed to be the first known object to travel to Earth outside our solar system.

The meteorite in question attracted the attention of scientists even then due to the high speed with which it entered the Earth’s atmosphere (over 130,000 miles per hour). As noted in a new document by Avi Loeb and Amir Siraj, such speeds usually originate from a star or stellar system that should be outside ours.

The 2014 meteorite strike preceded the 2017 Oumuamua, which some believe is extraterrestrial in origin.

The findings in this document were delayed until the US military failed to declassify some data about the meteorite, which burned and disintegrated as it entered the Earth’s atmosphere.

Siraj believes that parts of it can be found on the bottom of the Pacific Ocean, but finding them will require additional time and resources.
