Shortly after 1 a.m. Saturday, Toronto police were called to a parking lot near Markham Road and Lawrence Avenue East with reports of gunfire while driving.
Four men were found “suffering from various gunshot wounds”, according to the const. David Hopkinson.
Two were taken straight to the city’s trauma centers, he said, while the other two were taken to a local hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
A fifth victim was registered in hospital separately, police later learned.
“The suspect fled in what appears to be a blue home car,” Hopkinson said, although at this stage of the investigation he noted that police were still “confirming” some of the facts.
Bullet casings and holes were found at the site.
