Kelowna’s videos of Leo in 2018
After 26 years in business, one of the last video rental shops in Vancouver is closing.
Commercial Drive’s Black Dog Video announced last week that it will close in late June.
Store owner Darren Gay has posted online that the store’s business has been in decline for years, and amid rising rents and other costs, keeping the business open is no longer feasible.
“It’s been a long time, but it’s finally time to tear off that band-aid and pull the trigger, so to speak,” Gay wrote. “We lost the war because of what I call the ‘convenience of mediocrity’ that is being passed on, and so on.”
Kelowna lost her last video rental store in the spring of 2020, when Leo’s Videos closed forever.
