A mother and father will stand trial in January next year on charges of killing her daughter with a disability by allowing her to become obese.
Kylie Titford, 16, was found dead at her home in Newtown, Powys, Wales, in October 2020. She was found “pale, cold and unable to wake.”
Her mother, Sarah Lloyd-Jones, 39, of Colwyn, Newtown, was tried Thursday on charges of manslaughter and causing or allowing the death of a child or vulnerable person.
Her father, Alan Titford, 44, faces the same charges but was admitted to hospital the night before and was unable to attend Mold Crown Court in North Wales.
It is alleged that between March 24 and October 11, 2020, they failed to meet Kaylea’s nutritional needs, leading to painful obesity.
The defendants are also accused of failing to ensure that the 16-year-old boy moved enough, was in a hygienic condition and had a safe and clean living environment.
It is also alleged that Ms Lloyd-Jones and Mr Titford did not guarantee the maintenance of her physical health and did not seek reasonable medical treatment for her.
Judge Rhys Rowlands has scheduled a new plea hearing for June 30 with a provisional trial date on January 16.
