The number is higher than last year’s peak of 213,953 in July and is the third time at Biden that there have been more than 200,000 migrants at the border – just two months in the midst of the 2021 jump. their decline since July, they remain relatively high compared to the same months of previous years – they have never fallen below 150,000. The increase in traffic in March came as the Biden administration conspired to repeal the Title 42 Public Health Order, which has been in use since March 2020 to remove the majority of migrants at the border due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The administration eventually confirmed on April 1st that it would revoke the order on May 23rd. Since then, border guards have often met between 7,000 and 8,000 migrants a day.

Documents show that there were 123,304 deportations in March, 109,549 of whom were expelled under Title 42, while 80,127 migrants were released in the United States, including 36,777 migrants who were granted humanitarian parole – meaning that meet the conditions for work permits.

Both Democrats and Republicans, as well as government officials, predicted that there would be a further increase after the Title 42 order was repealed – as migrants would be drawn to the border, knowing they were more likely to be released. c The US administration reportedly planned scenarios for up to 18,000 migrants a day.

DEMOCRATS AND REPUBLICANS IN THE SENATE MEET FOR SUSPENSION OF THE ABOLITION OF TITLE 42

The impending end of Title 42 and the projected influx of migrants have led to significant bipartisan repulsion. Republican states have filed a lawsuit to stop the order, while a number of moderate Democrats have called on the administration to change course.

“Title 42 was introduced due to a public health emergency. It should not exist forever, but at the moment this administration has no plan. I warned them about that months ago, “said Sen. Mark Kelly, D-Ariz. told reporters this week.

Senator Joe Manchin, DW.Va., called the decision to terminate the contract “scary.”

“We are already facing an unprecedented increase in migrants this year, and this will only get worse if the administration ends the policy on Title 42,” he said. “We are not at all ready to deal with this influx.”

Meanwhile, on the Republican side, Representative John Catko, R-NY, said Border Patrol agents are already facing a huge number even before the end of Title 42

“They are overloaded. They will lose full operational control over the border if and when this increase occurs, “said Katko, a senior member of the House Security Committee’s internal security committee in a special report this week. “Everyone, including Interior Minister Mallorca, understands that there is a jump after Title 42 disappears.
