One person was killed and five were injured – four seriously – in a collision between two vehicles on the east side of Highway 417 near the Casselman exit shortly after 4pm on Friday.

One of the two vehicles went off the road and hit a tree, Ontario police said Friday night.

The death of the elderly passenger was confirmed on the spot, OPP reported, while the other four passengers in this vehicle were transported to hospital. The only passenger in the second vehicle received minor injuries, a media statement added.

Due to the investigation by the OPP traffic collision section, East Highway 417 remained closed between 66 and 79 miles on Friday night.
