The RCMP was to use an Air 1 helicopter to track a high-speed chase that ended in a collision of multiple vehicles in Surrey on Thursday afternoon.

Police initially tried to stop a driver with invalid license plates just before 4 pm, according to CTV News Vancouver.

The car was spotted with unnumbered, uninsured license plates. When the vehicle did not stop, the police had to use a spiked belt.

This did not prevent the driver to continue at high speed on the wrong side of the road. At the time, the vehicle was continuing down 120th Street in Surrey and was being tracked by a police helicopter.

An unmarked police car collided with the driver, causing them to collide with two other vehicles on 120th Street and 102 Avenue.

“Fortunately, no one was injured,” Mountis said in a statement.

“The suspected, banned driver has been detained and an investigation into dangerous driving is underway.
