A rocket hits Jose Andres’s humanitarian kitchen in Ukraine

A rocket struck a humanitarian kitchen run by the organization of chef Jose Andres in Ukraine, injuring four members of the team, the non-profit organization said.

The blast hit the World Central Kitchen in the northeastern Ukrainian city of Kharkov on Saturday, a Michelin-starred chef said.

“The @WCKitchen team and our fellow Ukrainians are concerned, but safe after a rocket attack on a restaurant in Kharkov,” Andres wrote on Twitter.

“Giving food in the midst of a senseless war is an act of courage, resilience, resistance… and we will continue to cook.”

Nate Mook, chief executive of the non-profit kitchen, also confirmed the rocket attack and shared a video of burned cars, debris and other damage in the neighborhood.

“It’s just a huge amount of carnage left for no reason. There are offices and housing in this area. People live here. “People work here, people cook here, and that’s absolutely horrible brutality,” Mook said in the video.

Although there were no casualties at the restaurant, Mook said they were “told that one person was killed in the crash.”

In an update Sunday, Mook said the wounded workers were “doing well” and that the team wanted to continue providing food to people displaced by the war.

“We really admire the courage of our @WCKitchen partners!” He wrote.

Mook said the team moved all food and equipment from the kitchen to another location in Kharkiv.

“The work doesn’t stop!” he tweeted.
