A victim of a hit and a run in Toronto’s fashion district dies in hospital: police

A 30-year-old woman who was hit by a vehicle in downtown Toronto in an alleged collision and flight has died at a hospital, police said.

The crash happened early Thursday morning around 3:15 a.m. near Spadina Avenue and King Street West in the city’s fashion district.

At the time, police said a high-speed vehicle collided with a pedestrian, stopped briefly and then fled the scene.

The victim, who has not been identified by police, was rushed to a critical trauma center, where she was pronounced dead on Saturday.

According to Sgt. Murray Campbell, who spoke to reporters at the scene, the driver of the suspect vehicle, left the scene at high speed and “knows exactly what happened” after the crash.

Investigators released new images of the suspect’s car on Saturday, which they described as a white, 2019 or newer Mercedes AMG GT convertible with a red interior.

They said the car’s roof was folded at the time of the collision and there would be noticeable damage to the front.

The only suspicious description provided by the police was that the driver was a man with dark hair. Officers are asking him to contact a lawyer and turn himself in to police.

Anyone who may have been in the area at the time of the crash, or who has a security or camera record of the area or the incident, is asked to contact investigators at 416-808-1900 or Crime Stoppers.
