Russian rockets falling over the center of Kharkov, Ukraine yesterday, killed two people and wounded 18. Among the latest group were workers in the World Central Kitchen of the famous chef Jose Andres, a charity initiative that has spread across the country to feed war victims there.
WCK CEO Nate Mook announced the terrible news on Twitter, writing: “An update I hoped I would never have to make. I’m at the @WCKitchen restaurant in Kharkov, where I met their amazing team less than 24 hours ago. A rocket landed today. 4 employees were injured. That’s the reality here – cooking is a heroic act of courage. “
Kharkov, Ukraine’s second-largest city, was shelled by Russian shelling all week, killing dozens, including at least three children.
Against the background of the destruction, Andres himself published an update of WCK staff: “To all who care and send good wishes to the team in Kharkov, thank you, the wounded are well and everyone is ready and willing to start cooking elsewhere.”
He concluded: “Many ways to fight, we do it with food!”

On Sunday, Mook posted a video of the organization’s staff already recovering in this other location in Kharkiv.
“The work does not stop! Today, the restaurant team is moving all food and undamaged equipment to another kitchen in Kharkiv, “Muk wrote. “The injured staff is doing well and the whole team here wants to continue cooking. We really admire the courage of our @WCKitchen partners! β

Also Sunday, UN World Food Program Executive Director David Beasley told Face the Nation that he saw blown up warehouses and warehouses – facilities that contain nothing but food.
“There is no doubt that food is used as a weapon of war in many different ways [in Ukraine]”he added.
Food warehouses have been bombed by Russia, says Beasley, a UN @WFPChief who claims hunger is being used as a weapon by Putin.
