All the flagship cameras for smartphones are so good these days and the differences between different phones are so small that it is becoming increasingly difficult to determine a clear winner.
This is especially true for today’s top phones. Of course, we are talking about the usual suspects, the popular top offers of Apple, Samsung, Google and OnePlus, which are usually among the best cameras around, combining flexible cameras with intriguing software features.
But which one does best, or in other words, which one gets the best voice when it comes to image quality? We took some pictures with Galaxy S22 Ultra, iPhone 13 Pro, Pixel 6 Pro and the fresh OnePlus 10 Pro and now it’s your job to unravel the mystery and find out which one is which. As we usually do, we’ve cleared the available EXIF data, so trying to retrieve the “sneaky” won’t work here. Of course, we have reviews of every live phone. You can check them all out below:
No more talking, let’s go!
Scene 1
This is a simple daytime scene shot at a local playground. The image was taken in the late afternoon and the sun shining on this castle slide really made the colors stand out and I couldn’t resist taking a few pictures.
Scene 2
Here’s an opportunity to try out the ultra-wide capabilities of any phone. I tried to capture as much of the clouds as possible along with this smaller children’s slide, and as you can see, some phones have done an objectively better job at this.
Scene 3
Despite the hardware differences of the four phones, the details are almost flawless in all the photos. Just look at how “sharp” these spruce leaves are in a literal and figurative sense!
Scene 4
Macro photography has gradually become an important aspect of today’s top phones, as each of them is more than capable of taking an impressive close-up photo of a plant or insect. Some of the phones in this comparison use various tricks to achieve better focus at close range. For example, both the iPhone and Galaxy are smartly switching to their ultra-wide cameras because they focus on closer distances at the cost of a background that has less bokeh and is not as creamy.
Scene 5
Now, using the special telephoto lens on each phone will quickly reveal who’s who in our blind camera comparison, especially for the sharper eye. That’s why I used 3.5X magnification on all phones to capture this sample image, as it’s not natural for any telephoto lens: the iPhone 13 Pro and Galaxy S22 Ultra have 3X telephoto lenses, the OnePlus uses a 3.3X one, and the Pixel The 6 Pro uses a 4X telephoto lens. A compromise that had to be made.
Scene 6
When the light goes down, especially at sunset, which colors the sky in the most beautiful shades, all phones have the ability to take an impressive picture. Although the lighting was not so dim (the photos were taken around 20:20), I chose night mode on all four phones to capture this additional effect.
Scene 7
Another twilight scene without night mode activated. Again, some phones probably work better here, but overall, the results are amazing in all scenarios.
