A Kentucky man has secured $ 450,000 in a lawsuit against his former employer after the company hosted a surprise birthday party that sparked a panic attack.
The man, Kevin Berling, is suffering from anxiety and panic attacks and has asked Gravity Diagnostics not to throw a surprise birthday party for him, as is customary for other employees.
When his colleagues gave him a party, Berling suffered a panic attack that worsened his relationship with the company, CNBC reported on Saturday.

Berling was called to a meeting the next day, where his superiors “criticized” him for the way he handled the party, which led to another panic attack.

Berling was then sent home for the rest of the week and received a letter the following Monday informing him that he had been fired. Berling is suing the company for discrimination and revenge against people with disabilities, according to CNBC.
However, Gravity Diagnostics claims that Berling posed a threat to his colleagues at the time of the incident. Founder and chief operating officer Julie Brazil said other officials should reassure Berling and accompany him from the building after the party.
