Ottawa police officer enters Elgin Street store during robbery, arrests suspect

An Ottawa police officer who broke into a store in Centertown during a robbery later found a suspect counting stolen money on the street.

Police say the suspect entered an Elgin Street store on Thursday night with a fake gun and demanded cash from the officer.

“While the officer gave money to the suspect, the officer entered the store,” Ottawa police said on Twitter.

When the suspect left the store, the officer told the officer about the robbery.

“The policeman is chasing the man on the street and finds him counting the stolen money,” police said.

The suspect is facing charges.

The suspect came out and the officer told the policeman what had happened. The policeman chases the man down the street and finds him counting the stolen money. He was arrested and charged. #ottnews
