PITTSBURG – Shots fired at a home party in Pittsburgh early Sunday killing two minors and injuring at least nine others, police said.
The shooting took place around 12:30 a.m. during a party at a short-term rental property with more than 200 people inside, many of them minors, Pittsburgh police said in a press release. At least 11 people were treated for gunshot wounds and two men died at the hospital, police said.
Others were injured in an escape attempt, with at least two people broken bones by jumping from the building’s windows, authorities said. Arriving officials said they heard gunshots in the area and saw several young people fleeing the area on foot and by vehicle, police said.
Police said about 50 rounds were fired inside and several more were fired from outside. Rifle and pistol shell casings were found at the scene, Pittsburgh Police Commander John Fisher told WTAE-TV. Police are processing evidence at eight separate crime scenes, covering several blocks around the scene, police said.
“You have alcohol, you have minors here and you have guns – it’s a deadly combination in any kind of event and the end result is a tragedy,” Fisher told WPXI-TV.
The names of the two dead youths were not disclosed immediately. No arrests were made immediately and police did not release information about the suspects immediately.
