Saudi Arabia forces Yemeni president-elect to step down, Saudi, Yemeni officials say

Riyadh, Saudi Arabia – Saudi Arabia forced Yemeni President Abed Rabo Mansour Hadi to resign earlier this month, with Saudi authorities largely restricting him to his home in Riyadh and restricting communication with him since then, according to Saudi and Yemeni officials.

On April 7, Hadi handed over power to a council of eight representatives of various Yemeni groups as Saudi Arabia sought ways to end the seven-year civil war in Yemen, which sparked a humanitarian crisis and damaged the kingdom’s relations with Washington.
