Tamil Nadu 18-year-old table tennis player Vishwa Dinadayalan dies in accident

Vishwa Dinadayalan, an 18-year-old table tennis player from Tamil Nadu, died in a car accident while traveling from Guwahati to Shilong by taxi on Sunday, according to a statement from the Indian Table Tennis Federation (TTFI). He was traveling with three teammates from Guwahati to Shilong for the 83rd National and Interstate Adult Table Tennis Championships, which is set to begin on Monday. Ramesh Santos Kumar, Abinash Prasannaji Srinivasan and Kishore Kumar, all three traveling with Vishwa, suffered serious injuries but were declared stable by the doctors who served them.

“A 12-wheeled trailer coming from the opposite direction, plowed through the road divider and hit the taxi at Shangbangla, just after the Umliy checkpoint, and sank into the gorge,” the TTFI said in a statement.

The taxi driver died on the spot, and Vishwa was pronounced dead by Indira Gandhi’s Northeastern Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences.

Vishwa and all three of his teammates were rushed to hospital by organizers with the help of Megalaya’s government.

Vishwa, a promising player with several national titles and international medals, was to represent India at the WTT Youth Contender in Linz, Austria, on April 27th. Vishwa, a product of the Krishnaswamy TT Club in Anna Nagar, was trained by Ramnath Prasad and Jai Prabhu Ram had come for praise from none other than Sharat Kamal. The ace rower praised him as an extremely talented boy with many promises.

He also expressed condolences over the death of the taxi driver in the crash.

Haryana’s Deputy Chief Minister Dushyant Chautala expressed his condolences on his death and announced 5 lakh rupees as compensation for his family.

Vishwa’s rise to fame was also steady. His transition from cadet to junior to junior was a standout look for any teenager looking to grow up. He also won national titles for cadets and juniors.
