The search for missing men flying over the Wawa area continues

Sunday is the third full day of searching for two missing men after their plane went missing in the Wawa area on Thursday night.

Major Trevor Reed, a senior public relations officer at the Trenton Joint Rescue Coordination Center, says visibility conditions have cleared significantly since the last few days of their search.

“The weather has improved a bit, so it certainly helps our ability to search,” Reed said. “Last night we made the CC130H Hercules do a night search, but unfortunately it didn’t work.”

The same seven search and rescue planes from Saturday took to the skies today to continue their efforts to find the missing. Reed noted that their demand is mainly limited to the air, as the terrain is incredibly hilly with many trees and snow in some areas.

Reed could not confirm the identity of the missing couple, but comments on Facebook from family members and friends noted that John Fer and pilot Brian Slingerland were the two men on the missing plane.

Meanwhile, in a Facebook post this morning, Mary Reimer – the sister of the missing John Fer – continues to hope that her brother and the pilot will be found safe, despite the harsh reality that time is running out. Her post reads:

“John Fer (my brother) and his friend Brian Slingerland are still unknown, despite their ongoing search since Thursday night. Today is the first day they will have a clear day to search properly.

They save some resources for today. Let us earnestly pray that time will endure and that God will give seekers guidance on where to look. I still pray for a miracle that they will be found alive, although despair is pulling quite hard in the other direction. We know that GOD knows and we want to trust HIM for the result. Please keep John’s wife Lisa and Brian Sue’s wife in their prayers, as well as their children. Waiting and not knowing is so incredibly difficult. “
