The threat of a far-right Danish politician to burn the Koran and shed “pig’s blood” has led to riots in Sweden in recent days.
The anti-Muslim and far-right political party Stram Kurs planned to hold a demonstration in the town of Landskrona, but announced a change of venue in the town of Malmö after protesters threw stones and set fire to cars, tires and trash cans.

Kim Hild, a police spokeswoman in southern Sweden, said authorities would not revoke the permit for anti-Muslim demonstrations because they had not violated the threshold for denying freedom of speech.
The right of protesters to “demonstrate and speak weighs enormously, heavily, and an incredible amount is needed to ignore this,” Hild told the Swedish news agency TT.

Swedish police say more than 100 young people took part in Saturday’s violence, following a more violent clash on Friday between protesters and counter-protesters in the city of Örebro.
The Orebro protest calls for police intervention for riots.

Similar protests took place in other cities, including the capital Stockholm.
Rasmus Paludan, a Danish lawyer who also has Swedish citizenship and founded the Stram Kurs party, addressed the audience as protesters threw stones at him. No one reported serious injuries, but Paludan was hit in the leg with a stone.

Paludan founded the party, whose name means “hard line”, in 2017, but has not yet reached the 2% threshold needed to represent Folketing, the Danish parliament.
The party posts videos on its YouTube channel, which include mostly party demonstrations.
