COLOMBIA, MO (KMIZ)
The Columbia Police Department has made two arrests in connection with a shooting incident that sent a man to Ninth and Cherry Street Hospital on Sunday morning.
Police said the shooting took place at 1:45 a.m. Sunday after police officers were initially called to the riot area.
Officers at the scene learned that a man had received a gunshot wound and was transported to a local hospital in a personal vehicle. At 11 o’clock on Sunday morning he is in stable condition.
Police arrested Victor L. Ariaga, 20, of Jefferson City, for assault and illegal use of weapons, and Israel N. Ortiz, 20, of Jefferson City, for violating peace by fighting in connection with a reported investigation into gunshot wounds.
One witness, Anthony Sobolewski, said he was only about six feet from a group arguing before seeing a man draw a gun and fire multiple shots.
Sobolevski then said he had run down the street to try to find safety as his ears were still ringing.
The University of Missouri’s MU Alert warning system also tweeted, advising students that there is shooting in the area and avoid Ninth and Cherry.
