USFL Week 1: Stallions defeat generals in instant classic

Week 1 of taking office US Football League the season has its first W in the books.

IN Birmingham stallions came from behind to win New Jersey Generals 28-24 in an instant classic FOX Saturday.

The opening weekend continues on Sunday with three games starting at 12:00 ET.

That’s exactly what football was all about in April.

Starting with a bang

Generals QB Luis Perez fired a 49-yard rocket at Randy Sutherfield for an explosive first game of the day.

The generals strike first

The duo followed suit with a quick 3-yard touchdown to take the lead at the start of the first quarter.

The generals took a 7-0 lead over the stallions after this Perez-Sutherfield connection.

The stallions return the favor

QB in Birmingham Alex McGow turned things around with a big 35-yard pass to Osiris Mitchell.

Not so fast

General Shalom Luani’s safety destroyed everyone in his path and set the tone early with this blow:

Man down!

Football fans saw the helmet’s new camera for the first time when Stallion defender Demarkis Gates came out with his first dismissal of the season, knocking Perez back seven yards.

McGough’s deep pass in the middle was intercepted by Luani and that’s right, the first statement of the season was fine.

The generals grab the lead

Perez found secret Braden Bowman in 13 yards to regain the lead in the second quarter.

Perez threw a colorful touchdown pass to Braden Bowman to help the generals grab 14-7 against the stallions.

Scary Scooby

Birmingham’s defense came out with a big game before half-time as Stallion defender Scooby Wright knocked the ball out of Perez’s hands as Generals’ QB tried to fight for the first down.

Chaos in the back

After the safety of the stallions, Nate Holly thought about it, he followed this with a huge blow to General QB De’Andre Johnson, who registers for Perez.

The generals led 14-7 by halftime.

The drone boarded

Johnson climbed midway to Birmingham’s 25-yard line, but the generals failed to take advantage of the big pickup and the game remained seven points in the middle of the third quarter.

Smith found Vic Bolden for a 17-yard pickup truck to move the stallions down the field.

Entangled in knots

Then Stallions, running backwards, CJ Marable found the end zone in a quick 3-yard quest to equalize at 14, aimed at the last frame.

Marable tied the game for the stallions with a quick touchdown in the third quarter against Generals in the first USFL game of the season.

Turn on the jets

The generals were the first to strike in the fourth quarter as Johnson intervened in the result, finishing 11-game, 65-yard with a score to make the game 21-14 early in the frame.

Johnson gave the generals the lead over the stallions, thanks to an impressively fast touchdown in the fourth quarter.

Neck and neck

The stallions had something to say about this in the subsequent reign, as Smith contacted Cary Angeline Fox Six to connect once again.

Down to the wire

The generals took a 24-21 lead with less than two minutes of play after scoring a 47-yard goal.

Dizzy!

But the generals’ leadership was short-lived.

With 29 seconds to go, Smith found the final zone, finishing the 10-game drive with a score to give the stallions a 28-24 lead, which they held to secure victory.
