Vladimir Frolov: Another Russian general killed during the war with Ukraine is another blow to Putin

Russia has lost another military general in the war against Ukraine in the latest coup against Vladimir Putin.

Vladimir Frolov, deputy commander of the 8th Russian Army, was given a military funeral at Serafimovskoye Cemetery in St. Petersburg on Saturday.

Alexander Beglov, the governor of St. Petersburg, confirmed the death in a statement that Frolov had fought in the Donbass region of eastern Ukraine.

His statement read: “Today we say goodbye to a real hero. Vladimir Petrovich Frolov dies a heroic death in a battle with Ukrainian nationalists.

“He sacrificed his life so that children, women and the elderly in Donbass could no longer hear the bombings.

“To stop waiting for death and leave home to say goodbye is like the last time.

Beglov describes Frovlov as a “true patriot” and a “brave” man.

Frolov is the last of several Russian generals reportedly killed after Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24th.

Despite the loss of high-ranking military officials, President Putin continues to say his “special military operation” is going according to plan.

Ukraine claims that about 20,000 Russian soldiers have died since the start of the war nearly two months ago, compared to 2,500 to 3,000 of its own.

This comes when Russia gave a deadline for fighters in besieged Mariupol to surrender, which expired early Sunday. Russia’s Defense Ministry has given Ukrainians at the giant Azovstal steel plant in Mariupol until 1pm on Sunday (10am GMT) to resign, saying those who lay down their weapons will have a “guarantee of saving their lives”.

A spokesman for Russia’s Defense Ministry, Major General Igor Konashenkov, said the Ukrainian military command had banned its troops from surrendering. He said the Russian military had received the information from intercepted communications.

Konashenkov warned that “all those who will continue the resistance will be destroyed.”

He claims that along with Ukrainian troops, there are about 400 foreign mercenaries besieged in Azovstal, most of European countries and Canada, who communicate in six languages, according to intercepted data. Konashenkov’s claim cannot be verified independently.
