Authorities in Pittsburgh have confirmed that “two male victims, both minors” died after being among at least 11 people shot at a home party in the East Allegheny area in the northern part of the city at night.
Overall picture: There were two more mass shootings over the Easter weekend, but this was the only one in which deaths were confirmed.
- The first shooting in the South Carolina capital of Colombia injured 14 people in a shopping center on Saturday, police said.
- SC officials said they were also investigating a shooting at a bar and lounge in Furman early Sunday that injured at least nine people, according to the South Carolina Law Enforcement Administration.
What happened: The Pittsburgh Public Safety Department confirmed the deaths in Eastern Allegheny and that several people were “fleeing the shooting” via a Twitter post on Easter Sunday morning. “The 11th victim of a firearm related to the incident showed up at a local hospital, the condition is unknown,” a later tweet said.
- “The initial investigation revealed a large party was being held at the property for short-term rentals, with about 200 attendees, many of them minors,” Pittsburgh’s public safety department said Sunday morning.
- “About 50 rounds were fired inside, prompting some partygoers to jump out the windows, injuring them with broken bones and tears. Several more shots were fired outside the home.”
- Airbnb said the house was rented through the company and that it was cooperating with authorities, the AP reported. A ban is given for life to the person who booked it, who must have been over 18 according to Airbnb rules.
Authorities in Colombia, meanwhile, have confirmed that law enforcement officials do not believe the shooting at the mall was “accidental” and that they have arrested a suspect, according to the AP. “We believe they know each other and something led to the shooting,” said Colombian Police Chief W. H. Skip Holbrooke.
- The other shooting at SC was at Cara’s Lounge in Hampton County, and police said “there are no deaths so far.”
