Chatham-Kent has lost a beloved member of the community, a longtime volunteer and former police inspector.
Tim Mifflin, who spent 32 years in the Chatham-Kent Police Department and 30 years as an active member of the Chatham Goodfellows, has died at the age of 63.
“He was a great leader,” said Crach Williston, director of Goodfellows at Porchlight. “He will be greatly missed.”
As an active member of the Goodfellows, Mifflin was a well-known public figure.
“He’s always had a hand in everything,” said Tim Haskell, who has volunteered with Mifflin for many years with Goodfellows. “He would go out to deliver toys, food and help with the porch lighting event. He would come to all the different events. “
Haskell said the news of Mifflin’s death was a shock, as were many Goodfellows.
“He’s a good friend, and it’s one of those things that when you lose someone like that, it shocks you,” Haskel said.
Looking back on their friendship, Haskel said the two often confuse each other, adding that it has always been a reason to make them laugh.
“I don’t know how many times I’ve been called Mr. Mifflin,” Haskel said. “I never minded being confused with him because he was such a great person.
Mifflin began his police career in 1980 at the Chatham Police Department. During his 32 years of service, he worked in various fields from the road to the criminal investigation department. He has been promoted to inspector, where he continues to play an important role in the development of the current Chatham-Kent police service.
Mifflin retired from police service in 2012.
