One mother was devastated – after the itchy skin turned out to be something much more sinister. Gil Live-Rochester spoke in an attempt to raise awareness.
This comes after her itchy mole turned out to be skin cancer. She went to the doctors only at the request of her daughter Emma.
Gil, the mother of 13-year-old Amy and another child, is only 36 years old. She was diagnosed with two malignant melanomas.

Gil told ChronicleLive: “I had a mole, but I didn’t realize it was there because it was on my lower back. My daughter said, “Mom, you’re still scratching your back, what’s up?” She said maybe I should check it out.
“Looking back, I didn’t realize how exhausted I was and my skin was really dry. I thought it would be nothing or something very insignificant. When I went to the doctors, they asked how long I had the mole on my shoulder, but I had no idea I had one there.
“Everything happened very quickly. I visited the GP in the middle of the week and they operated on me until Monday. I have been told that malignant melanoma is the most severe and aggressive form and will spread to my organs in six to eight weeks. “I never realized it was so serious.” Fortunately, it was the first stage. “
She said: “With skin cancer, a lot of people think it’s not that serious and they just get rid of it and that’s it, but it’s not like that at all. I’m still recovering from another biopsy I did, but that’s it.
“People ask me if they need to check the mole, and I would always say just check it out. It may be nothing, but it may be something. ”Anyone who wants to donate raffle prizes can contact Gil through her Facebook page.
