The Cleveland Browns have signed Pro Bowl defender Denzel Ward with a five-year contract extension for $ 100.5 million, which includes a guaranteed $ 71.25 million, said Tory Dandy of CAA Sports, who is negotiating the contract, told Adam Shefter of ESPN.
At 24, Ward is already the highest paid defender in NFL history. An average annual salary of $ 20.1 million puts him ahead of Jalen Ramsey, who was the highest paid defender with $ 20 million a season in the deal he signed with the Los Angeles Rams in 2020.
Ward already has a contract with Browns for another six years, until the 2027 season. He is under a $ 13.294 million contract this season, after Browns exercised his fifth contract last year.
The Browns chose Ward fourth in 2018, the same project in which the team selected quarterback Baker Mayfield as the number one overall. and signed it with a fully guaranteed five-year extension of $ 230 million.
Ward was selected for two Pro Bowls in his first four seasons – his new year in 2018 and 2021.
He has 10 interceptions, returning two for touchdowns and 50 saves in 52 games.
