Iran’s armed forces will focus on Israel’s “heart” if the Jewish state takes the “smallest step” against it, Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi warned in a televised address in Jerusalem on Monday.

“If you take the slightest step against our nation … the destination of our armed forces will be the heart of the Zionist regime,” Raisi warned.

He spoke as talks stalled in Vienna amid President Biden’s attempt to revive former President Obama’s nuclear deal with Iran. While Obama and Biden have said their deals are aimed at preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons, critics such as former US Ambassador to Israel Ron Dermer say the Biden deal will put Iran on the path to nuclear weapons. Last month, information emerged that the United States might consider removing Iran’s Revolutionary Guards from its list of certain terrorist groups in exchange for regional peace.

Following a clash between Palestinians and Israelis at the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem on Friday, Iran has accused Israel of “Zionist” aggression. More than 150 Palestinians were injured after thousands gathered to pray at the holy site during Ramadan.

The Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) called the clash “an insult to Muslim sacred values” and said it was “committed by the military and security forces of the Zionist regime by deploying military equipment and brutally attacking defenseless Palestinian slaves.” according to a translated statement from the Tasnim news agency, a private Iranian news agency.

The IRGC also promised a “new wave” of support for Palestinians rising up against Israel. It accused the Israeli state of “aggressive actions and new crimes”.
